DAY 1 - GREEN ENERGY CONFERENCE

The second annual Green Energy Conference, in partnership with Dubai Municipality and the Environmental Center for Arab Towns, has established itself as a must-attend event in the energy industry calendar. This year over 450 delegates attended the conference with notable highlights from Eng. Abdulla Rafia, Assistant Director General of Planning and Engineering at Dubai Municipality as he outlined the Municipality's commitment to improving energy efficiency and sustainable solutions for the future of Dubai.

The Middle East Electricity Leaders panel set the bar high with an engaging debate and discussion about best practice in supply-side operations and establishing demand-side policies to drive down energy consumption. Speakers throughout the day shared their expert insights, experiences and innovative ideas, offering valuable advice for delegates to overcome challenges and take advantage of new business opportunities. We'd like to thank our partners, Dubai Municipality and the Environmental Center for Arab Towns; our supporters the Emirates Green Building Council, the Clean Energy Business Council and the Arab Towns Organisation; our speakers and all of the delegates who attended this fantastic learning and networking event.

Testimonials

  • I am sourcing solar products and have found exactly what I'm looking for. This is the first time for me to visit the event and I will visit next year for sure. This is a great opportunity to introduce my company and to network with exhibitors and visitors. The exhibition is a great platform for the energy industry. This huge platform is a chance to meet leaders in this industry from over the world.

Abdul Razak Abdullah, Marketing Manager, Somalia Electricity Company

  • I am here to learn more about this Industry and source new business partners. Also to network with valuable contacts. This is the first time for me to visit the show and I am planning to come next year to see more products and trends in the energy future. From my first impression the exhibition is great and a successful platform

Mohammed Mosa, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank

  • I'm looking specifically at the Solar Sector as we face challenges now in Libya. This my first visit to the event and I'm going to return next year. The exhibition is very good, all of the big companies are here and I hope to do good business. I think the Solar exhibition is very good and I think it will grow in the future. This sector is the upcoming sector for the future.

Daw Naser, General Manager, Mazaya Electronic System, Libya

  • This region is the solar competency center for all of India, ME and Africa. MEE has been there for a while and is a fairly large exhibition and the footfall is immense. They've done it in a good manner this time by separating SME from MEE so we have a very filtered visitor turnout at the show coming specifically for renewable applications, targeted for PV applications and since it's not combined with MEE we're getting the right kind of clients asking the right kind of questions. Two days till now we've sourced a number of inquiries directly for our PV products so we're very happy with this arrangement this time. This is the second time we've exhibited at SME and we wish to continue. The good part is that these guys are specifically focused on PV applications and it's very helpful because every client meeting is an inquiry and leads to something. We're not encouraging signing deals as of now; we're only engaging customers and we want to confirm deals over the weeks to come. There has been a lot of turnout from the local market but it's surprising to see visitors from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan. We will definitely participate next year.

Shyam Yadav, Projects Engineer – Solar and Low Voltage Products, ABB

  • We've had visitors from the UAE, North Africa, South Asia and Europe. We've had some excellent conversations and will definitely sign some deals. From the perspective of talking to people who we want to talk to this is a good exhibition.

    Omer Ghani, CEO, Qmega

  • What makes the Green Energy Conference different is the number of deep industry practitioners who speak about what is happening in their companies and countries, giving tangible case studies. This sort of conference adds real value to people who attend.

Kenneth McKellar, Partner and Middle East Energy & Resources Leader, Deloitte & Touche

  • I found the event and the exhibition to be informative and the panel discussion engaging and rewarding.

Omar Al Wahaibi, CEO, Oman Electricity Holding Company

  • The event bought together key stakeholders from the public and private sector to discuss novel approaches to achieving a sustainable energy future for the region.

Saeed Alabbar, Director, AESG and Vice-Chairman, Emirates Green Building Council

Future Generation

The organisers of Middle East Electricity are committed to investing in the future of the energy industry and in 2014 proudly presented the first edition of Future Generation – a competition for undergraduate engineering students. Engineering students from universities across the United Arab Emirates exhibited their innovative solutions for alternative energy, energy efficiency and energy conservation.

Visitors to Middle East Electricity and Solar Middle East 2014 had the chance to speak to the students about their concepts and ultimately vote for their favourite.

On the final day of the exhibitions, the votes were counted and the winning project was presented with a prestigious Middle East Electricity Award by Waddah Ghanem FEI, Honorary Chair of Education at The Energy Institute.

  • CONGRATULATIONS

to the winners of the 1st edition of the Future Generation:

Ajman University of Science & Technology/Fujairah with their Wind Powered Water Lifting System

The team consisted of: Zulfa A Rasheed, Amna Abdulla and Muna Dahir Ali

Travel

Dubai is the region's commercial and tourism centre and is connected to all international markets. Dubai is also the regional trading hub and gateway to the rest of the Middle East.

CLIMATE

Dubai has a sub-tropical, arid climate. In March, around the time of the event, you can expect some of the best weather Dubai has to offer. Rain is highly unlikely and temperatures are around the high 20s to low 30s. We would advise visitors to keep hydrated and bring sun protection if they plan to spend any time outdoors.

ECONOMY

Oil contributes just 20 per cent of economic production. Trading, manufacturing, investments and services, including tourism, now dominate the economy.

LOCAL TIME

The UAE is four hours ahead of GMT.

ALCOHOL

Alcohol is permitted in hotel and club restaurants and bars. However, restaurants outside the hotels are not permitted to serve alcoholic beverages.
